Not vaccinated yet to help stave off COVID-19?
The next on-Island opportunity is Wednesday, May 12 at the Shelter Island Library between noon and 3 p.m., when the Johnson & Johnson “one-shot and you’re done” will be administered.

The announcement came from Police Chief Jim Read at Tuesday’s Town Board work session.
For those who have been unable to get inoculations during the work day, Stony Brook University is arranging to offer late appointments. For information, access the town website at shelterislandtown.us and hit the tab for COVID-19 to find a complete list of where vaccines are being administered. ....

Town officials continue push for on-Island vaccinations - Shelter Island Reporter

Shelter Island is prepared to schedule appointments and provide all logistical necessities needed to provide COVID-19 vaccines to residents, but what it lacks is the vaccine. That was the message Tuesday from town officials.
Police Chief Jim Read said school officials are prepared to schedule classes virtually so that the building could accommodate vaccinations. He said the town would handle scheduling of appointments and arrange for whatever number of professionals would be needed to administer the inoculations.
It can also provide a freezer or refrigeration unit for vaccines and any other requirements the federal, state or county officials might impose. Camp Quinipet has also offered space to administer vaccines,  Supervisor Gerry Siller said. ....

Chief Read reports on COVID crisis
Some hopeful news on the COVID-19 spike came at Tuesday’s Town Board work session.
Police Chief Jim Read reported that after a long period of climbing case numbers throughout the town, county and state, Suffolk County announced a slight turn down in reported cases on Sunday and Monday.
Nonetheless, Chief Read said the county is reporting 34 cases on the Island since the pandemic started last March. But he estimates the local cases have totaled in the low 50s since the pandemic hit. The discrepancy  between county and town numbers is because some who are on the Island reported their off-Island addresses to the County Department of Health Services. ....
