Do this in a way that doesnt replicate i think things that have happened here. Is this an area where there is potential progress . I would want to qualify that. Do keep in mind prescription drugs are completely come absolutely and totally permitted under the three International Drug control as you would expect them to be that is the one area where you would stick to be allowed to do is be as particular products. That is to say a trained and licensed physician who determines that this particular medication is required or called for or indicated for a particular medical condition. The problem obviously then the conventions themselves as well as the bodies that provide the guidance to the United Nations system as well as our own government are attempting to limit, control and ideally eliminate the abuse and diversion of those prescription drugs. Could they come up with ideas in terms of how better to do that . I suppose so but again this is where i come back to you with my closing comment
Border that northern border. And yet republicans are willing to shut down Homeland Security. In fact, we heard colleagues in the House Republicans saying it really wouldnt be that big a deal to shut down Homeland Security. Really . Really . Is anybody looking reading the paper looking at the news, looking at whats happening every day around us . It wouldnt be a problem to shut down Homeland Security . Thats stunning. Michigan has the busiest northern Border Crossing in the country in detroit the biggest northern Border Crossing, for commerce, for product for people and we rely on our customs and Border Patrol every single day. Talk about folks on the front lines of protecting us. Customs, border security, airport security, police and fire. We have coast guard. We have all of those who are on the front line of protecting our families in america. Thats what were debating. Do we play games with that, hold Homeland Security hostage because of a debate with the president about another issue
Good afternoon, everyone. Its a pleasure to welcome everyone to the Second Annual deans lecture to the graduating class. And the excitement here is extraordinary. There were long lines. We have an overflow room, because this room is packed. We have people in the front rows with notorious rgbt tshirts. And were all gathered here to hear from id like a big round of applause for our extraordinary speaker, justice ginsburg. [applause] thank you. So the idea behind this lecture is that its an opportunity for our graduating students to hear from a giant in the law, as she reflects on her career and offers advice to graduating students. And i cant imagine a better speaker for us to be listening to. Because were going to be talking about Justice Ginsburgs career im not going to go into a long intro. In the American National parks they were established in the 19th century but there was no one to protect them or preserve them. Keep trespassers away. And so the army really because of the efforts of the commanding general, the army stepped in. Literally saves National Parks until another organization can be created. For better or for worse, they did more than fight indians. The American People have historically had a fear of the regular army. From the english traditions, revolutionary war traditions, we fear a standing army. It is hard for modern observers to realize because now the military is one of the most trusted institutions in the u. S. But that was not the case in the 19th century.
