Do this in a way that doesnt replicate i think things that have happened here. Is this an area where there is potential progress . I would want to qualify that. Do keep in mind prescription drugs are completely come absolutely and totally permitted under the three International Drug control as you would expect them to be that is the one area where you would stick to be allowed to do is be as particular products. That is to say a trained and licensed physician who determines that this particular medication is required or called for or indicated for a particular medical condition. The problem obviously then the conventions themselves as well as the bodies that provide the guidance to the United Nations system as well as our own government are attempting to limit, control and ideally eliminate the abuse and diversion of those prescription drugs. Could they come up with ideas in terms of how better to do that . I suppose so but again this is where i come back to you with my closing comment
People will benefit more from this and the government will. Thats not the question whether you think and whether we think it. Do you think the cuban people are going to be working for these companies and now we have been permitted to go into cuba and the cuban people want their government to take their pay . Im sure they dont. Whose side are we on . Are there going to be opposition parties new opposition parties . We will continue to support those who want to have their voices heard. But there have been no concessions on their part so we have changed five decades of u. S. Policy and they still wont have any independent unions opposition parties. I can imagine they are going to have opposition newspapers and the rallies, this is a regime that the castro brothers came in and once they were in power they murdered the patriots who overthrew the regime, they personally did. The putt fellow that we were negotiating with ticket pistol and took these patriots out and shot them in the head by t
A lasting defeat. And in order to do that we need a partner. And we are trying to build that partner in terms of a moderate syrian force and local forces from the region that can with our air power and other kinds of assistance, inflict defeat on isis and then make it a lasting defeat. Thats how i would characterize what i see. Im obviously not in the councils of comfort. Thats what i infer. When you were in my office we talked about i having just returned from ukraine. When i first walked in senator heinrich was talking about lithuania. Their concern was that all of our attention seemed to be in that part of the world concentrated on i crane. Its true. Weve never had i happened to be there when they had their election for the first time in 96 years. They dont have a communist in their government in the ukraine. We have that problem at the same time as the others youre addressing. What do you think about our european strength as it is right now . Are we adequate . Are we becoming inade
Good afternoon, everyone. Its a pleasure to welcome everyone to the Second Annual deans lecture to the graduating class. And the excitement here is extraordinary. There were long lines. We have an overflow room, because this room is packed. We have people in the front rows with notorious rgbt tshirts. And were all gathered here to hear from id like a big round of applause for our extraordinary speaker, justice ginsburg. [applause] thank you. So the idea behind this lecture is that its an opportunity for our graduating students to hear from a giant in the law, as she reflects on her career and offers advice to graduating students. And i cant imagine a better speaker for us to be listening to. Because were going to be talking about Justice Ginsburgs career im not going to go into a long intro. Its just particularly wonderful to have you here. First of all because youre someone who is not only a great justice but really a rarity among justices, somebody who would be an historic figure eve
Resources. The army does a lot of things. They are discoverers explorers. Army contracts are an important part of the economy. They play a role in conservation. In the American National parks they were established in the 19th century but there was no one to protect them or preserve them. Keep trespassers away. And so the army really because of the efforts of the commanding general, the army stepped in. Literally saves National Parks until another organization can be created. For better or for worse, they did more than fight indians. The American People have historically had a fear of the regular army. From the english traditions, revolutionary war traditions, we fear a standing army. It is hard for modern observers to realize because now the military is one of the most trusted institutions in the u. S. But that was not the case in the 19th century.
