Live doppler 7 shows where the hurricane is right now, moving north across the state of florida. Meteorologist lisa argen will have details in just a moment but heres the latest on irmas impact. Its now a category 2 storm. Irma made landfall in florida along the southwest coast this afternoon. The tomorrow is blamed for at least four deaths in florida, including a sheriffs deputy, and that is in addition to the 27 deaths reported in the caribbean. Nearly 3. 5 Million People are without power. Thats more than a third of all power customers in florida. More than 175,000 people are spending the night in a shelter. Reporter good morning, natasha and reggie. The winds have really calmed down a lot in the past 15, 20 minutes or so. Still breezy outside but you can see whats left behind. Here we are on lark avenue by highway 17 and youve got big piles of these pine needles in the middle of the road. You have tree branchs as well. Power outages are a major issue. Were talking about 11,000 customers without power at the height of this wind storm this morning between 2 30 and 4 00. Now were being told there are about 4,500 without power in the south bay. And that breaking news what mike and reggie just mentioned strong winds in the south bay this morning taking a lot of people by surprise, those winds coming in overnight knocking down trees in several cities and thousands of customers are without power in the south bay right now. An engine on the scene of a report of a downed power lane and they said they were even surprised by what took place early this morning here across the south bay. The good news the winds have died down but the debris is still here. Check this out, this giant branch and then you have pine needles all across lark avenue here right off highway 17 just spread out all across the road, so be careful when youre driving this morning. Trees are down everywhere and look at the shear force of the winds to take down a tree of this size and to toss metal off of signs, from street signs all over the place. Despite was see here on the ground behind me people i talked to today say they know it could have been so much worse. We sat on our patio and watched the whole storm. Reporter marilyn is one of many whose nerves may take some time to recover. Nerve rattling. It was so i was so tense when it was all over that i couldnt even lay down. Reporter against the advice of local authorities, marilyn rode irma out with her family inside their naples home. It was so intense. Parts of it were so scary we werent even sure but we all just stayed at home. Reporter blake and his family evacuated their low lying house to seek shelter at a nearby friends home. The cell moving over south san jose has a history of producing lightning at this hour. A few around richmond. The wider view into the north bay we go weve seen lightning but it has not moved into napa county just yet. Watch this new cell that had just developed to the north of mount hamilton. Were going to track that one because it does have vivid looung. Folks could expect lightning by 6 00 p. M. Expect to hear rumble of thunder. The storm bring it on back.
