Senate begins confirmation request of ex-Service Chiefs, Fiscal Responsibility Commission

Following President Muhammadu Buhari’s request to the Nigerian Senate seeking confirmation of the newly appointed ex-Service Chiefs, Senate on Wednesday commenced the process.
The request was read on the floor of Senate Chambers by the Deputy Leader, Senator Ajayi Boroffice, stating that the confirmation was in line with the provision of Section 171(1) of the Armed Forces Act, 2004.
He said: “That the Senate do consider the request of Mr. President C-in-C on the confirmation of the following persons for appointment as Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs.

Senate receives Buhari's request to confirm Buratai, others as ambassadors

The President, in the letter requesting the confirmation of the appointment of the former CDS and Service Chiefs, also sought the confirmation of Air Vice Marshal Muhammad S. Usman (Rtd) as a non-career Ambassador-Designate.
According to a statement on Tuesday afternoon by Ezrel Tabiowo, Special Assistant (Press) to President of the Senate, the request was contained in a letter dated 4th February 2021, and read during plenary by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, immediately after the adoption of the Votes and Proceedings.
According to President Buhari, the appointment was duly carried out in accordance to section 171(1),(2)(c) & sub-section (4) of 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended. ....
