SIOUX FALLS — The South Dakota Health Care Association (SDHCA), which represents Long Term Care Centers across South Dakota, held its Annual Fall Convention Sept. 19-21.
As with other recent nursing home closures, the primary factors are a combination of the ongoing underfunding of Medicaid, the current staffing crisis, and costs related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the South Dakota Health Care Association, more than 10% of licensed nursing facilities in South Dakota have closed their doors in the last five years.
