According to the South Dakota Health Care Association, more than 10% of licensed nursing facilities in South Dakota have closed their doors in the last five years.
Avantara Salem permanently relocated current residents to other company facilities in Arlington, Armour, Huron and Norton. The residents arrived at their destinations by 12:30 a.m. on May 13, 2022.
A shortage of staff was given as one reason that officials for the Avantara Ipswich nursing home said they will close the 40-bed nursing home on May 31, 2022.
