New website launched to showcase all Ilkley has to offer


ILKLEY’S Business Improvement District (BID) have launched the new town website Discover Ilkley.
The new website has been locally created, commissioning a team of Ilkley businesses to develop and design the site.
The project has been a joint initiative with Ilkley Town Council who warmly support the Discover Ilkley Campaign to which it has contributed financially.
Ilkley Town Mayor Mark Stidworthy said: “The new Discover Ilkley website is a vibrant and informative one-stop portal where businesses, shoppers, visitors and residents can find out more about what’s happening in the BID area, where to shop, what to eat, where to go and how to get there.” ....

Open public meeting to discuss water quality in River Wharfe


THE Ilkley Clean River Campaign group is holding a public meeting on March 10 to discuss plans for improving the water quality in the River Wharfe in Ilkley.
It takes place online from 5pm to 6.30pm and follows the successful campaign to have a section of the river in the town designated as bathing status.
The open public meeting will cover:
the proposals for cleaning up the river at Ilkley - specifically the impact of the new partnership announced by Yorkshire Water and Bradford Council;
the implications of securing designated bathing status for Ilkley - how the agencies are responding;
the results of the whole river testing and what that means for cleaning up the whole river Wharfe and the impact of new legislation. ....

Ilkley Town Mayor's message at Christmas | Wharfedale Observer


ILKLEY Town Mayor, Councillor Mark Stidworthy, has shared his final message of the year.
He said: “Changes to Covid-19 restrictions across the United Kingdom have disrupted already limited opportunities to see friends and family this Christmas. We will feel disappointment, anger, anxiety and other strong emotions intensified at this poignant time of the year. We may be dismayed but I am sure we will not be defeated, nor lightly set aside the high levels of personal responsibility that Ilkley residents have shown throughout this crisis. The virus spreads rapidly if we lower our guard.
“Over the last nine months we showed ourselves to be a resilient, forward-looking, positive community, ready to help our neighbours. We took difficult steps to protect each other and the NHS, and did so with pride, knowing that many in our town and district were working tirelessly to keep us safe. We supported our amazing local businesses through this most difficult of economic times ....

Covid causes spike in mental health issues at Ilkley Grammar | Bradford Telegraph and Argus


ILKLEY Grammar School is being given thousands of pounds to help cope with a huge spike in mental health issues caused by the Covid pandemic.
The Grammar is getting £5,000 in funding from Ilkley Town Council to pay for additional counselling to complement its existing in-school provision. The school says its counselling provision is close to capacity and there are many students in need of support, particularly in exam years 11 and 13, but also across other age groups, as the pandemic results in a huge spike in mental health needs.
In a statement after its funding request was granted the school said: We can confirm that like all schools IGS is seeing a significant increase in mental health issues due to COVID and lockdown.The key message from us is that the funding we will receive from the Town Council will enable us to maintain additional counselling provision to complement our full time Place 2 Be counselling provision which is working close to capacity. ....
