ILKLEY Grammar School is being given thousands of pounds to help cope with a huge spike in mental health issues caused by the Covid pandemic. The Grammar is getting £5,000 in funding from Ilkley Town Council to pay for additional counselling to complement its existing in-school provision. The school says its counselling provision is close to capacity and there are many students in need of support, particularly in exam years 11 and 13, but also across other age groups, as the pandemic results in a huge spike in mental health needs. In a statement after its funding request was granted the school said: We can confirm that like all schools IGS is seeing a significant increase in mental health issues due to COVID and lockdown.The key message from us is that the funding we will receive from the Town Council will enable us to maintain additional counselling provision to complement our full time Place 2 Be counselling provision which is working close to capacity. ....
