I happen to think that the lbj library has set a pattern or is setting a pattern. Three weeks ago we had two stars on this stage; bob schieffer, moderation, in conversation with former secretary of state madeleine albright. Well, tonight weve got two more stars on this stage, john avlon and Mark Updegrove. Johnjohn avlon is a true risingr in this country in the media and journalism world. John got his start as a speech writer for Rudy Giuliani both when he was mayor of new york and later as a president ial candidate. John avlon today is the editorinchief and managing director of the daily beast, but hes way more than that. He is a very active writer in this country. Every major magazine has seen one of his pieces. Moreover, hes on television all the time. You can look at cnn, you look at msnbc, you can look at pbs, you can look at cspan, and youll see j
We do kind of share the same work ethic. We both sort of we had to hit a deadline they set for us wimple had tone could churning out words. But lin is a very rare specimen. I have got top work with a lot of very talented people, and theres something unique about that guy. About how closely he listens, thing you dont think he is picking up, the speed his brain is moving all the time, even when you think its not. It comes out when he does improve improv. He is part of a hiphop team and is funny and comes up with things that are moving. So, yeah, you sort of have to be on your toes when youre with the guy, but he is also a friend. So thats part of the one of the thing is love about the guy, it just never stops. Thank god because if it stops we wouldnt have holiday hamilton. Thank you. I have to say that everything that jeremy just said about lin, i would say about jeremy. Really. He is remarkable, and im so honored to know him and that he is here to tell our story. So, thank you very much

It have focused on british history and, you know, these were not all all, you know, histories but, boy, churchill was always worth reading whether its memoirs, whether he had a wonderful little book called great contemporaries written in the 20s which nexton did a follow on kind of book himself. I like to read Richard Nixon stuff. I like to read about Richard Nixon. Fascinating politician of my life and i thought the things that he wrote were really quite good. Did your reading help you in your work as a congressman . It does.
