I am endorsing Marie Stone for the Mashpee Board of Selectmen/Select Board. I am extremely hopeful to find myself writing this letter; hopeful for the health of the air we share; hopeful for the survival of open Land upon which we walk and share with the rest of creation; and hopeful for the health of the water from which we draw food and drink. Casting my vote for Marie Stone is giving me this hope. Marie serving as a member of the Board of Selectmen is exactly what we need at this time in Mashpee history. She brings the passion of an indigenous woman, mother, grandmother and good neighbor to these very pressing issues. ....
Sometimes living in Mashpee feels like living on a construction site. Mashpee Commons, like most businesses, will act purely in their own self interest. Letâs not mistake them for heroes bringing innovative design and economic growth. They are a for-profit company pursuing a business opportunity that stands to make them hundreds of millions of dollars. While they have run a good PR and lobbying campaign, the reality is that their actions and plans display an intent to maximize built footprint while minimizing open space and affordable housing. Willowbend was founded by a billionaire, and New Seabury is owned by a billionaire. Carl Icahn is literally building a high-density luxury development right on top of our Highwood drinking water pump station. And using a cluster zoning permit issued in the 1960s to do it. Have we not learned? ....
