COVID-19 Death Toll Hits 2 Million Globally


The global death toll from COVID-19 has crossed two million on Friday, which poses a huge problem to vaccine rollout.
Johns Hopkins University recorded the two millionth death just over a year after the COVID-19 was first identified in Wuhan, China, according to an Associated Press report.
The number of deaths is about equal to the population of Brussels, Mecca, Vienna, or Minsk. It is also almost equivalent to the entire state of Nebraska or the Cleveland metropolitan area.
Dr. Ashish Jha, a pandemic expert and dean of Brown University s School of Public Health, said there had been a terrible amount of death, despite the extraordinary work done by the scientific community. ....

COVID-19 vaccines are rolling out, but global immunity is far off


Pfizer-BioNTech, Oxford-AstraZeneca, Sputnik V, and Sinopharm are among the authorized vaccines being distributed in multiple countries.
But Russia, India, and China have been criticized for rushing their vaccine approval processes, and some people remain skeptical about getting inoculated.

Europe launches a cross-border vaccination programme of unprecedented scale on Sunday as part of efforts to end a COVID-19 pandemic that has crippled economies and claimed more than 1.7 million lives around the world.
The region of 450 million people has secured contracts with a range of suppliers for over two billion vaccine doses and has set a goal for all adults to be inoculated during 2021.
