Report of a fire on the westbound tracks around 3 00 this afternoon. I just got off the phone with a b. A. R. T. Spokesperson who tells me that basically seven cover boards. This is what covers the electric third rail. Those burned late this afternoon. B. A. R. T. Then had to come in and power down that rail so it was safe for firefighters to come in and put the fire out. A b. A. R. T. Rider who made it back home from San Francisco late this afternoon said he actually heard about the fire from over there and waited it out. Waited long enough to where were able to get back on the b. A. R. T. They single back tracked in and got us out to walnut creek. It was good. There was a little bit of delay but it is what it is. B. A. R. T. Did take one train out of the mix. B. A. R. T. Tried to set up a bus bridge and that now, of course, is not needed. I asked about the b. A. R. T. It is a sight that no homeowner wants to see. 15 fire truck running up the hill. Reporter around 5 00 p. M. A vegetation fire start near sierra and sal elevator as road in east san jose. Just saw the mountain top just filled with smoke. Reporter calfire says the fire is no longer spreading and doesnt pose a threat. No evacuations were made. And they say its still too early to tell what caused the fire. Mean, it is a long time coming. Awful dry up there. Very dry up there. Reporter sam isaac lived down the hill for 37 years. While this fire seems to be under control he satisfies the dry conditions and activity up there can be troubling. Bart station was shut down today after a small fire broke out on the tracks. Lee martinez is there with how passengers are dealing with the closure. Reporter they do have one track up and running right now, floor gonna be delays there are gonna be delays. We do have one track up and running. Crews on the westbound lanes are taking a look at third rail. This is where the fire was. And theyll assess how long its gonna take to get that up and running. Earlier the Train Service was shut down for about an hour. Reporter fire crews saw smoke coming from the west end of the station right in the middle of the tracks. The fire was in the instituting material insulating material surrounding the third rail. Anybody whos been in a bart station and has seen the third rail, and they see the fiberglass cover that goes over the rail, thats what was on fire in this particular case. Storm scan3 showing us most of the activity in and along the i95 corridor and points westward. Rainfall intensity is starting to pick up. This sloop three hours long so you can see that rain coming down steadily throughout that loop, time frame so were just piling up the rain at this point. This is Mercer County right here.
