Outgoing Mayor of Halton walks nearly 200 miles for charity

GOING the extra mile for charity is always something to be admired, but the former Mayor of Halton took the idea to a whole new level.
Margaret Horabin – who recently stepped down from her tenure as the borough’s Mayor – gave her Mayoral charity fund a big final push by walking 186 miles during the month of April.
She walked between five and nine miles a day in aid of Nightstop Communities Northwest and the Let’s Go Stroke Club, her chosen charities for the year.
By doing so, she got to see more of the borough she was representing too. ....

IT s like the bingo and I feel like I’m sitting an exam were some of the passing comments from Halton councillors as they gathered for their first in-person meeting of full council for more than a year.
With previous meetings being held online, Friday evneing saw the return of face-to-face proceedings, although to call it a return to normality would be a stretch.
Upon entry, councillors were each given an assigned numbered desk in order to maintain social distancing, with masks mandatory until proceedings were underway.
