David and Margaret Hunter marked the special occasion with an afternoon tea at Rosepark Care Home in Uddingston where they both now reside. The pair, who tied the knot in 1951 at Balornock Chapel after meeting while working at the Schweppes factory in Glasgow, were treated to a delicious three-tier cake, donated by Special Days Celebration Cakes, at their physically distanced afternoon tea at the care home which was decorated with balloons donated by Happy Ever Laughter. ....
Detroit Tigers pulled out a win on Opening Day and so did most Detroit restaurants in the eyes of the Detroit Health Department. Fifteen Detroit health inspectors, partnered with Detroit police, visited about 60 establishments on Thursday and issued citations at three of them, said Denise Fair, chief public health officer for the city, speaking in the late afternoon. Fair herself was making the rounds and was happy with the COVID-19 prevention protocols at Comerica Park, the attention to restrictions at most restaurants and of course, news of the Tigers’ 3-2 win over Cleveland. Speaking to news media as snow fell outside the Tin Roof restaurant next to the stadium earlier in the day, she showed the Old English D pin she had under her winter coat. The stadium was at 20% capacity and she hopes to make it to the next game. ....
The Blarney woman, whose commitment to the scouting movement both at local and national level has seen her win one of Scouting Ireland s most prestigious accolades, has added yet another string to her already impressive bow. This was after Lucy Kay, who has devoted years of service to Scouting Ireland inspiring many young people to achieve their life goals, was unveiled as the 2020 Blarney Person of the Year. Local entrepreneur Robert Gabriel, the brains behind a dedicated online browser for people with dyslexia, has also joined the list of people inducted into the Blarney Hall of Fame. Traditionally the annual Blarney Person of the Year and Hall of Fame inductees are announced at a community get together in the Castle Hotel attended by the monthly nominees, family members and invited guests. ....
