Increased littering becomes nuisance for wildlife in Margalla Park

Islamabad : The increasing trend of open plastic waste disposal by the visitors at various spots of Margalla Hills National Park has become a nuisance for wildlife thriving in the National Park.
The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) staff was repeatedly exhorting and at times censuring masses for their negligent behaviour but of no avail, an IWMB official told APP.
He said the IWMB staff along with volunteers was carrying out a weekly cleanup of the trails.
The main issue was arising due to the restaurants operating on Daman-e-Koh road offering takeaway. ....

Barbecue, lightning fire banned at Margalla Hills

Islamabad : The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) has imposed section 144 and prohibited barbecue and campfires in the vicinity of the Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP) for next three months.
According to the official order issued by the IWMB, there is a complete ban on smoking, bonfires, burning of garbage, carrying flammable items such as lighters, charcoal, matchstick and bottles of petrol and kerosene oil in the MHNP.
It said that lightning fire often leads to forest fire especially in the summer season when the rising temperature further aggravates the situation.
An official said the ban on lightning fire has been imposed due to the fact that the warm conditions in the upcoming summer months often caused fire incidents that ultimately not only resulted in loss of tree cover but also damaged natural habitats of the wildlife animals. ....

Islamabad: The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) has imposed ban on feeding monkeys to ensure the safety of the visitors all along the Margalla hills.
The signboards have been installed on different locations to inform the visitors that they are not allowed to feed monkeys, which can anytime attack them due to various reasons.
According to the details, a staff member of IWMB was patrolling the hills when he faced a group of monkeys. When he did not give any food to them one of them attacked and injured him. ....

Islamabad : The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) have decided to launch joint efforts for cleanliness and conservation of Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP) that exhibits the green character of the capital city.
According to the details, the officials of CDA and IWMB would prepare proposals for joint efforts that would be discussed in the meeting to be held in the coming weeks. The proposals would focus on cleanliness; preservation of flora and fauna; restoration and protection of wildlife habitats and promotion of bird and animal species in the MHNP. ....

Rare wildlife species returning to Margalla Hills

Islamabad: The camera trapping devices showed that rare wildlife species that were believed to have left the Margalla Hills for other destinations are now returning back to their previous natural habitats.
The latest footages recorded through the devices revealed the presence of three more wildlife species including golden jackal, Indian Porcupine and small civet cat.
These camera trapping devices installed by Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) throw infrared rays in the night time that never disturbs the animals but makes their clear footages.
Apart from the increasing human interventions the loss of natural habitats was also one of the major factors that resulted in the migration of the wildlife species from the Margalla Hills. ....
