dana: describing a shooting over the father s day weekend. it was hardly and isolated incident with the city facing a wave of gunfire that killed nine people. welcome to a new hour of america s newsroom, i m dana perino. good morning. bill: good weekend? dana: yes, you? mine was quiet. bill: i m bill hemmer. good morning. investigators looking for suspects and motive after shots were fired into a crowd during a juneteenth celebration and looking into a horrific shooting at a father s day barbecue in a park. mike tobin on a monday morning has the latest from chicago yet again. mike, hello. hello, bill. the weather was perfect this holiday weekend that brought people out celebrating juneteenth and father s day. time and again in chicago when people gather, guns come out. in rows lawn on the south side people were bash cueing in the park for father s day. a sedan opened fire and five people were killed. the shootings were not limited to the violent areas in the south
allies. we have been around for a long time. what we re doing now is to provide a choice for americans if we come to 2024 and this country doesn t want the choices that are served up, we re getting the ballot in all 50 states to offer americans a choice if they want it. we call it an insurance policy. you don t have to do it. if the american public doesn t want it. one ticket one time. dana: what is your measurement if the american people want it? we are going to see. we ll wait until april because that will be after march 6th super tuesday and after florida. it will be very clear who the choices are. and we ll know just like we see the polls now. right now nobody wants the match-up of trump/biden. it is very clear. ist is all over the place. one of the most recent polls was 70%. dana: the choice for president including someone else. trump 41, biden 34, someone else
now romney is a strong favorite in, you mentioned the month of february is good for him, maine, colorado, arizona and michigan. he seems to be leading there in those states. he is tied in minnesota. but newt gingrich has a strategy and he laid some of it out the other evening at his news conference. he is counting on the march 6th super tuesday, winning georgia, tennessee, oklahoma. next week, alabama and mississippi and he plans to win texas in april. what do you think of that strategy? well it is a defensive strategy because he will do pretty well in the south but how he gets there? he will be limping into super tuesday. can he win those states, some of those states? surely. there are some obstacles for him. and the base does seem to be reluctantly coalescing behind romney and, the lack of debates really hurts gingrich because he doesn t have the organization or the money that romney has. gregg: he does have money woes apparently. some republican leaders
he had a great week of debates. seems to got his mojo, i guess, in a way he maybe lost it the week before. what s your overview? it s a big night for mitt romney. no doubt about that. he seems to be well positioned right now for february. most of these contests whether in nevada or arizona or michigan, he s got some major advantages even in colorado let s say. he s going to do well in february. but you correctly point out march 6th assuming all four of these candidates remain in the contest, march 6th super tuesday. it s called super for a reason. it s going to be significant. and the other three gave absolutely no indication whatsoever piers, that they re thinking of dropping out. newt gingrich in fact in his remarks tonight and his speech tonight, he didn t even congratulate mitt romney, which is traditional. the other two candidates did. there was no phone call between the two of them. he s pushing on. he is determined to do what he can to get this nomination. even if it
