Michigan National Guard helps administer vaccines to local health care workers


Over 200 health care workers a day have been vaccinated this week at Mercy Health in Muskegon.

MICHIGAN, USA Back in December, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services called on the Michigan National Guard to help with the distribution and administration of vaccine funds.
By the first week of January, the guard was deployed throughout the state. 
At Mercy Health in Muskegon, Sgt. Christian Grow from the Detroit Light Guard Armory Regimen says he is happy to help.
We have a few different roles that we can fill, mainly it s COVID testing COVID vaccines, and then any sort of administrative work that we may be able to take care of it. All the other bases are covered by workers, particularly today, My role here today was mainly preparing vaccines for the nursing staff to distribute to the patients, Sgt. Grow said.  ....

How to get registered for the COVID-19 vaccine in West Michigan

Kent County Health Department estimated Phase 1B may include as much as 20% of the population. As of Feb. 12, there are currently about 18,000 people on the county s waitlist. 
The county is currently running a clinic at its Fuller Avenue building, and vaccinating about 3,500 people between first and second doses each week. 
People are chosen from the waitlist based on specific framework, not on a first come first served basis. The framework seeks to serve people from disproportionately impacted zip codes each week, according to Dr. Adam London, director of KCHD.
The county has also partnered with Spectrum Health and Mercy Health for the West Michigan Vaccine Clinic at Devos Place. In addition, KCHD is vaccinating people in underserved communities and in congregate living facilities.  ....

Doctor, nurse are among Michigan's first to be vaccinated against COVID-19


CADILLAC — Two of Spectrum Healthcare s employees spoke today about being among the first Michiganders to receive Pfizer s COVID-19 vaccine.
In a call with reporters, Spectrum President and CEO Tina Freese Decker announced that the healthcare administration had administered its first doses at 12:04 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14.
Front-line and nursing home workers are in the first phase of the vaccine roll-out.
Dr. Marc McClelland, a pulmonologist who has been caring for COVID-19 patients, said he feels fine and that his arm is not sore.
Yvette Kamana, an ICU nurse, said she had initially been skeptical about the vaccine but has become more optimistic and volunteered to be among the first to be vaccinated. ....

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Spectrum Health received the first shipments of Pfizer s COVID-19 vaccine Monday morning, and administered it to several staff members in the afternoon.

Among the first people to get the vaccine was Dr. Marc McClelland, a Pulmonary Medicine Doctor, and Yvette Kamana, a Registered Nurse who works in the ICU.
“This day is tremendous. This is a very exciting day. I feel very grateful to have this opportunity. To me, this is a day of hope, said Dr. Marc McClelland who works in pulmonary medicine at Spectrum Health West Michigan. ....

McLaren Hospital in Petoskey Prepares for Vaccine Distribution

Some hospitals have already received their shipments of vaccines and others are still waiting.
McLaren hospital in Petoskey will receive their later this week. Chief Nursing Officer, Jennifer Woods said they will be getting 390 to 500 doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
“Once they are thawed we have a period of time that we need to reconstitute and also then get them administered, but we have the capability of handling the deep freeze, so that gives us the chance to work with a little more timeline,” she said.
The hospital will determine the best way to distribute the vaccines when they arrive, but Woods said health care workers are the No. 1 priority. ....
