Health care workers across the United States were among the first Americans to get the federally approved coronavirus vaccine Monday, marking a critical moment in the fight against Covid-19.
The Food and Drug Administration cleared the way for Pfizer s Covid-19 vaccine to be used for emergency use Friday as the country is still deep in the pandemic, with case numbers rising around the country. The virus has killed more than 300,000 people and infected more than 16.3 million in the U.S. alone. ....

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan Michigan healthcare workers say it s a day of hope after the first round of COVID-19 vaccines were administered Monday, as the state recorded thousands of new coronavirus cases and dozens of deaths.
We see a lot of patients that are critically ill, so I have to say it s taken a toll on our emotions and our own physical being, said Yvette Kamana, a registered nurse who works in the ICU. It s very exciting and I consider it a blessing to be one of the first people to get the vaccine. ....

Workers at 2 Michigan hospitals first in state to get virus vaccine

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH.
Frontline health care workers at two Michigan hospitals have become the first in the state to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
Among those receiving vaccinations Monday was 46-year-old pulmonary and critical care physician Marc McClelland at Spectrum Health Butterworth in Grand Rapids.
Vaccinations also were carried out at Michigan Medical in Ann Arbor. They came as the state reported 7,205 newly confirmed coronavirus cases and 90 deaths Sunday and Monday.
The state says additional Michigan hospitals are expected to begin vaccinating health care staff later this week.
Health care workers across the country began receiving the vaccine Monday marking the start of the biggest vaccination campaign in American history. ....

First COVID-19 vaccinations administered in Michigan
Two Michigan hospital systems administered the first COVID-19 vaccinations in the state on Monday, injecting the Michigan-produced Pfizer vaccine into front-line workers.
Ann Arbor-based Michigan Medicine and Spectrum Health s Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids were the first to begin vaccinating workers in the state the beginning of a massive inoculation rollout in Michigan expected to expand to other hospital systems in the coming days.
It was momentous to see this happen for the first time, Spectrum President and CEO Tina Freese Decker announced at a Monday afternoon press conference.
The Grand Rapids-based health system, which has 14 hospitals in west Michigan, received its first shipment of 975 doses of the Pfizer vaccine shortly after 9 a.m. and administered its first vaccination just hours later at 12:04 p.m., Freese Decker said. ....
