Our Correspondent Imphal, Nov. 21 (EMN): The United Kingdom (UK) on Tuesday thrashed Indian Navy 16-0 in the opening match of the 14th Manipur Polo International tournament played at Mapal Kangjeibung, the oldest living pologround in the world located in the heart of Imphal town. Indian Navy did not have any answer to the relentless onslaught of UK in their debut match as UK players Harry Tucker and Phil Seller played splendidly, scoring six and five goals respectively. Phil Seller opened the account for the UK as early as in the 47th minute of the first chukkar following it up with another goal in the 1.10th minute. Jack Tucker increased UK’s lead to 3-0 in the 3.43rd minute. Thereafter, Tucker added two more goals in the 4.03rd minute and 6.42nd minute to end the first chukkar 5-0 in favour of UK. Our CorrespondentImphal, Nov. 19 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh formally launched the state’s Sagol Tongba Police (Manipur Mounted Police) unit to maintain law and order around Imphal on November 18. A well-decorated Sagol Tongba Police team of Manipur police department was also exhibited prior to the opening function of the 1st Chief Minister’s Sagol Kangjei(a unique traditional polo) Championship 2022 at Manung Kangjeibung, an old pologround at Kangla fort in Imphal. “With the launching of the Sagol Tongba Police (Manipur Mounted Police), every Battalion of Manipur Rifles would also be given the task of rearing 10 Manipur ponies each,” Biren Singh said, while addressing the gathering. “This may help in preserving and promoting our pony breed over and above the state initiatives to preserve the pony,” he added.
