A Walter Sisulu University student accused of assaulting police officers and burning state property during a violent student protest in Mthatha will spend more than a week in jail.
During clashes between police and students this week, a police Nyala was petrol bombed, and four officers wounded.
Mfuneko Mankengana, 24, faces various charges.

This is after 24-year-old Mfuneko Mankengana s court case was postponed to 28 April by the Mthatha Magistrate s Court, where he made a brief appearance on Thursday.

The decision to fire Eastern Cape health MEC Sindiswa Gomba is based on a goal to clean up the image of the provincial government.
Mabuyane said the decision will allow Gomba time and space to focus on the charges she is facing in the Nelson Mandela funeral fraud case.
Gomba will, however, remain a member of the Eastern Cape Legislature and Cogta MEC Xolile Nqatha will act as health MEC.

They face a string of charges, including fraud and corruption, after allegedly siphoning R10 million under the guise that it was for Nelson Mandela s funeral preparations.
