Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane. (GCIS) The decision to fire Eastern Cape health MEC Sindiswa Gomba is based on a goal to clean up the image of the provincial government. Mabuyane said the decision will allow Gomba time and space to focus on the charges she is facing in the Nelson Mandela funeral fraud case. Gomba will, however, remain a member of the Eastern Cape Legislature and Cogta MEC Xolile Nqatha will act as health MEC. The decision to fire Eastern Cape health MEC Sindiswa Gomba is based on a goal to clean up the image of the Eastern Cape government.

They face a string of charges, including fraud and corruption, after allegedly siphoning R10 million under the guise that it was for Nelson Mandela s funeral preparations.  Premier Oscar Mabuyane has noted the charges against Gomba, and is taking it seriously. Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane will make a decision about Health MEC Sindiswa Gomba after she appeared in court on Friday. She faces a string of charges, including fraud, corruption and money laundering. The case is in connection with R10 million allegedly siphoned from the Buffalo City municipality under the pretence that it was a budget for Nelson Mandela s funeral preparations.

Covid-19 super-spreaders: Eastern Cape govt worries over queues at post offices, Home Affairs

Masi Losi/ The Times/Gallo Images/Getty Images Oscar Mabuyane said provincial government engaged Home Affairs and the SA Post Office to ensure their branches do not become Covid-19 super-spreaders.  Mabuyane urged applicants of the R350 social relief distress grant to stop showing up at the province s 156 Post Office branches uninvited.   Home Affairs confirmed that its East London branch s 16 employees were seeing more than 400 people from across the province daily. Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane said the Eastern Cape government was concerned that long queues at post offices and Home Affairs branches in the province may become Covid-19 super-spreaders.      Speaking during his weekly Covid-19 media briefings in Bhisho on Tuesday, Mabuyane said the provincial government would assist Home Affairs and the Post Office to manage the queues.
