I hope that a wonderful Mother’s Day was enjoyed by all. After breakfast in bed, I enjoyed a gorgeous rose bouquet and lunch from my favorite Jamaican restaurant as the kids, Grandma and I bonded in front of the big screen. The goodies were nice, but what mattered the most to me was the time and effort put in. Anyone can shower you with trinkets or sign a card, but the biggest gift of all is being able to raise my children with a man who is a conscious and involved parent. Calvin does more than offer lip service; he puts in the necessary, non-glamorous grunt work as a father and stepfather, while loving and supporting me along the way. ....

Family, friends, and some Central Ohio elected leaders gathered Friday afternoon for a funeral for Ma’Khia Bryant at First Church of God on Refugee Road. The 16-year-old was fatally shot by a Columbus Police officer April 20. Police body cam video showed Bryant lunging with a knife toward another person. The shooting has raised many questions about police use of force. Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther joined with Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (D-Columbus) and other community leaders at the funeral. Beatty says the entire community including elected officials need to stand together to bring about justice for Bryant. ....
