Photo and Article via Valley City State Athletics BELLEVUE, NEB (vcsuvikings.com)– The Valley City State softball team defeated Waldorf on Saturday morning to make it to the NSAA Championship game, but fell in a 4-3 battle to Dickinson State. Dickinson State (33-13) earns the conference’s automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament as the 2021 NSAA Tournament Champions. The Vikings (35-7) will now wait to see if they earn an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament by the selection committee. The NAIA will announce national qualifiers on Tuesday, May 11, at 4 p.m. A total of 40 teams will qualify for the NAIA Opening Round. There will be 32 automatic bids decided by individual conferences and eight spots remaining for at-large bids. Valley City State was ranked No. 26 in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll. ....

(vcsuvikings.com)– Senior pitcher Emily Smith picked up her 20th win and eighth shutout of the season with a 5-0 victory over Dakota State Thursday evening. Valley City State picked up its 17th straight victory and moves to 34-5 on the season. Smith worked all seven innings and allowed just three hits, walked one and struck out six in Thursday’s game. The Vikings posted five runs in the first two innings to hold a comfortable lead throughout the game. Joelle Aiello led off with a single and Anne-Elise Gest walked. Marissa Hawkins advanced the runners with a groundout and Makenzee Stone bunted to score Aiello. Autumn Perry‘s two-run double scored Gest and Stone to lead 3-0 after the first inning. The Vikings added a pair of runs in the second inning with Joelle Aiello‘s two-run triple, scoring Andrea Rodriguez and Jessica Husband. ....
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (vcsuvikings.com) – The Valley City State University athletic department recognized excellence in its student-athletes Monday night at the 2021 Viking Awards. The annual banquet brings together most of the university’s student-athletes for a meal, awards and recognition of their accomplishments during the 2020-21 season. This year’s celebration was held outdoors at VCSU’s Lokken Stadium, and students were served a tailgate-style meal prepared by members of the VCSU Century Club Board of Directors. Athletic director Jill DeVries emceed the event as VCSU announced its major athletic awards, honored its seniors and North Star Champions of Character, and celebrated numerous school record breakers during the night. ....
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (vcsuvikings.com) – The Valley City State softball team tallied 30 hits Sunday and outscored Presentation College 33-1 in the Senior Day doubleheader sweep. Valley City State outscored the Saints 54-1 in the four-game series sweep over the weekend. All four games were decided by mercy rule and strong pitching from seniors Amber Stewart and Emily Smith allowed just one run on six hits throughout the weekend. The Vikings smashed six home runs Sunday – including three from junior Jessica Husband – to and extend VCSU’s winning streak to 15 games. Valley City State finishes the regular season with a 32-5 overall record and a 25-2 conference record. Presentation finishes the season with a 7-32 record overall and a 6-21 record in the NSAA. ....
