Dickinson State (33-13) earns the conference’s automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament as the 2021 NSAA Tournament Champions. The Vikings (35-7) will now wait to see if they earn an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament by the selection committee. The NAIA will announce national qualifiers on Tuesday, May 11, at 4 p.m. A total of 40 teams will qualify for the NAIA Opening Round. There will be 32 automatic bids decided by individual conferences and eight spots remaining for at-large bids. Valley City State was ranked No. 26 in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll. ....
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (vcsuvikings.com) – The Valley City State softball team was down to its final out on Sunday, trailing 10-5 during game one of a doubleheader with Bellevue University. That final out never happened. The Vikings put together six straight two-out singles – tying the game at 10-10 – and then Marissa Hawkins hit a walk-off grand slam to complete a stunning comeback. When the celebration ended the Vikings had scored nine runs with two outs, rallying for an improbable 14-10 victory. Bellevue earned a doubleheader split with a 10-1 victory in game two as pitcher Cory Carrillo flirted with a perfect game. ....

After seeing their 2020 season cut short due to COVID-19, the Vikings are back in action Friday for the 2021 season opener as they begin their quest for a second straight conference title. VCSU will play four games this weekend indoors at the Presentation College Dome Classic in Aberdeen, S.D., beginning the season Friday at 12 p.m. against Dordt University. The rest of the weekend includes a 2 p.m. game Friday against No. 20 Morningside College. On Saturday, VCSU faces Briar Cliff at 10 a.m. and Dakota Wesleyan at 2 p.m. Presentation College will provide live video and live stats for all games this weekend at the links below. ....
