laura, what happens when a country s leader makes a bad, unpopular decision? apparently, that depends on the country. because, british minister resigning today after only six weeks in office. her economic plan plunged britain into turmoil, and her own conservative party, turned against her. you know, in this country, the voters decide, but the candidates are nominated by the two major parties as you all know, which limits the leadership choices. tonight, dueling panels are back. allison taking on this very topic of how do you solve a problem like unpopular leaders? we have to set the clock. 4:00, we will see which panel can come up with the spicier answers about this. this is not going to be like that show where there s a horrible ending at the end? there s no death coming? there s a huge bucket of slime that will fall on one of our heads if we don t deliver on the panel. that is true. which person do you think would be more upset if her hair gets messed up? all r
will receive would be 30 days in jail, at the very least. it could go up much higher than that. the justice department would like it to be quite harsh, a six-month sentence in jail. they also want bannon to be fined the maximum amount, 200,000, because wherever the court was doing their proceedings to try to figure out how much he could pay financially, he said, charge me the most. i was convicted, charge me the most. i m not giving you my private, financial information. that s what the justice department wants. they also want punishment for bannon s bayer. the trial was very simple. it was about, did he show up or did he not, wherever he was subpoenaed. today is about how he has acted throughout this process of the congressional proceedings, of the court proceedings, and the justice department writes throughout the case, the defendant has exploited his notoriety to display to the public the source of his bathe refusal to comply with the committee s subpoena. a total disregar
refusal to testify before the january 6th select committee and his failure to turn over documents. let s begin this morning outside the u.s. district court in washington, d.c. cnn political correspondent sara murray is there. how is all of this expected to play out today? reporter: well, you know, look, steve bannon is here in court, we expect this could take a couple of hours. what we know is that steve bannon is trying to get out of any kind of jail time. he was convicted on two counts for refusing to show up for a subpoena to testify before congress and refusing to hand over documents. the government has asked that he spend six months behind bars and they said he should pay a $200,000 fine. now, bannon s team has said, look, at the most he should get probation, he listened to his attorneys advice and if you are going to put him behind bars it should be house arrest only. they are also saying bannon plans to appeal his conviction and they re saying that any punishment he
