The Hartford High girls lacrosse team appears intent on standing atop VPA Division II until someone finds the temerity to knock them off. The Hurricanes bounced back from their first loss of the season over the weekend by dominating Stratton Mountain to the tune of an 18-4 defeat on Monday. Hartford (13-1) used a pair of quick first-half bursts to take control, riding six-goal performances from Adi Cadwell and Zoe Pfeiffer to victory. Cadwell, Caroline Hamilton (four goals) and Pfeiffer scored within the game’s first three minutes to get Hartford started. The Canes took control for good with four goals in less than two minutes from Chloe Jensen, Pfeiffer and twice from Cadwell late in the half and cruised from there.

Local Roundup: White River Valley pitchers lead the way on the diamonds Carder Stratton Published: 5/8/2021 11:14:47 PM Modified: 5/8/2021 11:14:44 PM SOUTH ROYALTON – Carder Stratton tossed a complete-game gem to lead the White River Valley baseball team in a 9-0 win over visiting Green Mountain on Saturday. Stratton struck out 11 while allowing no walks and scattering seven hits for the undefeated Wildcats. Stratton also helped his own cause at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. “Carder threw very well today. He competed all day and put the team in a great spot to win,” WRV coach Devin Cilley said.

The Yellowjackets (3-2) combined seven hits with 15 walks and used them to earn a 19-3 win over Hartford in a five-inning Southern Vermont League softball contest at Hartford High School. As for the hit parade, Hannah Wood, Paige Kleefisch and Kate Murphy led the way by driving in three runs apiece. Wood and Murphy both went 2-for-3, and Kleefisch delivered all of her RBIs with a three-run homer in the third inning.

Local roundup: Windsor boys stun previously unbeaten Rutland Staff Reports Modified: 3/15/2021 7:34:52 PM WINDSOR Owen Abrahamsen had 20 points to help the VPA Division III Windsor High boys basketball team stun previously unbeaten D-I Rutland, 55-50, on Saturday afternoon. The Yellowjackets took command in the second quarter with a 17-2 run to build a 29-17 lead at halftime. Rutland chipped away from there, rallying to tie the game at 50-50 with 51 seconds left in the fourth. Windsor made the key plays in the final minute to secure the win. Jordan Place hit a pair of clutch free throws with 13.8 seconds to play to give the hosts a 53-50 lead. After Rutland had to foul again soon after, John Cook stepped to the line to make two of his own to give the hosts an insurmountable 55-50 lead.
