24/7, moving very slowly. i think they re about 1,200 miles away from the southern border. that decision was made to send those resources to the southern border, which already has a wall and drones and several law enforcement agencies protecting it. and i m not aware of any actions he took personally to help catch a serial mail bomber targeting his political rivals. are you? i mean, nicolle, the tweet this morning said it all. i know that he has really been outrageous on his twitter feed for three years running, or even before he was a candidate. but i do think this morning s one that you ve had up onscreen is really one of the lowest of his entire candidacy and presidency. he was basically saying boo-hoo, the focus is off of the scary caravan that i keep trying to spotlight and highlight and is all i want to talk about. and i can t believe we have to deal with this bomb stuff in quotes when people when the lives of former presidents, not to mention people in mailrooms
intentionally made, not to explode doesn t matter. they have all the elements of a bomb. they have power, they have a timer, they have an explosive material. so you have to take this very seriously. this may be the beginning or the prelude to somebody sending really functional bombs or it could be that the individual who put it together is so incompetent that he didn t put it together properly. but the fact is we have to take this very seriously because any one of these devices could explode and cause great damage. which is exactly what the officials were saying yesterday, david, that they were stunned from pamela brown s reporting, that some of them didn t explode in the multiple hands they touched before they reached the mail rooms. we know a few things. we know they were functional. we know at least one had a timer, david. we also know that at least one contained projectiles including sharms of glass. what does it tell you about whoever is behind this?
i have every confidence in the fbi and the postal inspectors, the secret service and our local law enforcement that are involved. big concern obviously that there is a danger here not only to those high profile officials being targeted, but also by the postal workers, the couriers, every day americans who work in mail rooms, who might come in contact with these potentially lethal devices, what do you say to people like that who might be worried? i tell them just to be vigilant, be alert. those are the kind of things i think, you know, our postal folks are trained right now. we have got an incredible group of people that work in the post office. they re trained. they re looking out for these things now. i guarantee you that throughout all law enforcement and all government with all public officials both in the congress and in the state offices across the country, people have now been looking at these packages, seen what to look for, they have seen what to expect, everybody is going
now, these are rudimentary, crude devices. whoever made this perhaps could have gotten a recipe for this off the internet. but make no mistake, these are real devices, and they could have hurt somebody. and as you pointed out, you know, they may have been addressed to john brennan or to somebody else, but these are typically handled by mail carriers, clerks in the mail rooms. so someone could have gotten hurt, and that is a great big concern for the authorities that are investigating this tonight, that somebody could get hurt, perhaps because there are additional other devices that are still making their way through the system, through the mail, and could show up in the next couple of days, don. just because they re crude doesn t make them any less potent. thank you, evan. thank you, kaitlan. i appreciate your reporting this evening. we re going to discuss trump s condemnation of political violence after spending years stoking it right after this break.
