Traffic lights “desperately needed” on Woodcocks Road
Mahurangi College principal Tony Giles has started a petition to Auckland Transport to install traffic lights at the pedestrian crossing outside the school on Woodcocks Road.
“As traffic has built, so have near misses. They are reported by staff, students and the community on a near daily basis,” he says.
He says lights could be phased to provide more time for students to cross at the start and end of the school day.
According to Mr Giles, local businesses have also voiced concern with staff, having frequently witnessed near misses.
He says factors including sun strike, inattentive drivers and distracted teenagers all contribute to the potential for a serious accident. ....
