Maharashtra covid update: Maharashtra reported a rise in COVID-19 cases with 87 new infections and two deaths on Wednesday. Mumbai contributed 19 cases, while Pune city and Sangli district each reported a fatality. The state recorded 37 cases the previous day, but the number surged to 267 between December 21 and 27, including 10 cases of the new JN.1 variant of the Omicron variant. In response, the Maharashtra government established a new Covid task force led by Dr. Raman Gangakhedkar, former head of epidemiology at the Indian Council of Medical Research.
Heeding to the demands raised, the Maharashtra government on Wednesday extended the timings of hotels, restaurants and shopping malls in the state till 10 pm.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uddhav Thackeray (in the picture) said that the vaccination drive in Maharashtra has been the “fastest and the most efficient in the country”.
MUMBAI: Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray has urged the central government to allow separate apps for states to implement the Covid-19 vaccination drive.
Thackeray has also demanded permission to procure vaccines from different manufacturers across the world to speed up vaccinations to reduce the impact of the potential third wave.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Thackeray said that the vaccination drive in Maharashtra has been the “fastest and the most efficient in the country”.
