Brookline teachers express concerns about return to school

Gabriella Aponte and Caroline Bowden / brookline@wickedlocal.com Brookline first-graders returned to full-time, in-person instruction Monday, with grades 2 through 5 potentially set to follow suit by the end of the month.  While many parents are eager to see their children back in school, some educators are concerned about the logistical issues of this return, as well as the impact on teachers mental health. Preparing for full classrooms five days a week presents new challenges for teachers, including potentially reducing social distancing parameters from 6 feet to for grades 2 and up. The Public Schools of Brookline is required to negotiate these changes with the Brookline Educators Union, and district officials provided evidence in support of this reduction in a Feb. 19 report.
