Dr. Linus Guillory will be Brookline s new permanent school superintendent, following the School Committee s unanimous approval Thursday.
He will be the first Black superintendent the district has had.
The position has been vacant since former Superintendent Andrew Bott stepped down nearly two years ago. Guillory will take the reins from Interim Superintendent Dr. Jim Marini, the second interim leader since Bott resigned. His appointment will be effective July 1 and is conditioned on the negotiation of his contract.
The sole finalist in Brookline’s superintendent search (the other two finalists dropped out), Guillory brings with him more than 20 years in education. His experience ranges from nearby Lowell where he currently serves as chief schools officer to Rochester, New York, and Houston, Texas, where he worked for NASA’s Johnson Space Center.

An announcement from President Joe Biden that people working in schools will be prioritized for the coronavirus vaccine has Massachusetts teachers looking ahead.
Eighth grade English teacher Nancy Mades-Byrd has been fully remote for almost a year. I cannot wait to be in a room with students again, said Mades-Byrd.
She says the plan to vaccinate teachers puts her one step closer to being back at Pickering Middle School in Lynn. But she knows the vaccine is just one part of staying safe. I don t think that any of us, at this point, are naïve enough to say we re all just going to get our shots and life goes back to normal, she said.
