The country’s seaport – Dr. A.C. Wathey Cruise & Cargo Facility - is named after Wathey who oversaw the economic transformation of the country over a 40-year period. Over the four decades, Wathey’s vision transformed St. Maarten into a prosperous tourism destination. Since then, tourism continues to be the mainstay whereby the island maintains a competitive position within the Caribbean Basin.

First Transit Cruise Call of Celebrity Edge a Stepping Stone for Regular Port Calls Published: 07 July 2021 POINTE BLANCHE: -  Port St. Maarten management on Wednesday morning met with Celebrity Edge Captain Kate McCue at the gangway upon arrival of the cruise ship to destination St. Maarten, the first transit call to the country since the onset of the pandemic and presented a token of appreciation on behalf of the port and the St. Maarten Tourism Bureau. Captain Kate was ecstatic when it was mentioned that coincidentally Celebrity Edge was the last commercial ship that visited the destination back in March 2020.

Published: 18 May 2021 PHILIPSBURG: - As part of the vaccination campaign, ‘The drive to 85%, SXM s race to normalcy’, the Minister of Public Health, Social Development, and Labor, Omar Ottley in collaboration with Port St. Maarten, held a bumper sticker handover at Dr. A.C. Wathey Cruise Facility. The bumper stickers were handed over to the president of the Dutch St. Maarten Taxi Association (DSTA) and other DSTA representatives, who were all dressed in uniform. Over 20+ taxi drivers who presented their vaccination cards, which provided proof of being vaccinated, received a bumper sticker for their vehicle which states This driver was vaccinated.
