morning. more than 77 hours and counting now of searching for survivors and the people who love them, these people who are missing, these people are being asked to stay patient. they are being asked to stay hopeful as the rescue crews work against clock. boris, we know how hard that is right now. reporter: that s right. they are in a very difficult limbo. the uncertainty of not knowing the fate of their loved ones and the desperate search now entering a fourth day with, sadly, no new signs of life yet. the number of people confirmed dead now up to five. four of them have been identified. still 156 people remain missing, unaccounted for. and in a moment you will hear from a family member anxiously awaiting for answers and praying for a miracle. crews are using every tool they have in this non-stop search and rescue effort. the mayor of surfside saying yesterday, we don t have a resource problem, we have a luck problem. as families wait with both hope and frustration for any
the east bay and it could be a while before it all gets fixed. kpix5 s joe vazquez is at the north concord station that s now become the end of the line for some. it s like a bermuda triangle on the tracks, and it continues to perplex the engineers of b.a.r.t., a mysterious power surge between the north concord and pittsburgh bay point stations damaged 50 trains last week, one after another forcing b.a.r.t. to suspend all service between the station. that s really messed up, zapping a train and causing a short circuit. reporter: b.a.r.t. says they repaired a butch of the cars over the last few days. they are not saying how many but they are saying monday riders will still have to continue to take buses between the stations. meanwhile, they ran test trains this weekend, some with passengers to accurately replicate the weight of the trains, trying to find out what s causing that spike in voltage. i hope they get it done speedy because we need to get where we got to go,
power surge issues. we are hoping to learn more later this morning but until then commuters from the east bay will have to deal with delays. so the two stops that we are focusing on this morning are the north concord and pittsburg bay point stops. this is where service has been stopped and temporarily replaced with a bus bridge to shuttle commuters between the two stops so bart says crews have been testing the tracks for days now and yesterday after continuing to examine where the power surges happen, bart still didn t have a reason for this destruction so some morning commuters aren t thrilled with the prolonged delays and lack of answers. i hope they get it done speedy, really quick because we need to get where we got to go, you know. reporter: bart issues have become a topic of conversation among transit experts across the country. they say these problems are most likely the result of aging tracks so you may recall that bart had a power surge issue last month in februa
