Charlotte Woman Advocates for Lung Cancer Research Funding After Losing Mother to the Disease


CHARLOTTE, NC | March 16, 2021
Charlotte resident Tonya Robinson lost her mother to lung cancer in 2017, so on Wednesday, March 17, she will meet with members of Congress to raise awareness about the disease and demand action. 
Through the American Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE initiative, Robinson will join others personally affected by lung cancer to advocate for $46.1 billion in funding at the National Institutes of Health, $10 billion for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, adequate and accessible healthcare. 
In 2017, Robinson’s mother went to the doctor for a persistent cough. After several tests, she was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer.   ....

Atlanta Lung Cancer Survivor Meets with Georgia Lawmakers to Advocate for Change


ATLANTA, GA | March 15, 2021
Atlanta resident Karen Baumbach is a healthy, active woman who didn’t have any symptoms when she was given a surprising diagnosis – lung cancer. This Wednesday, March 17, Baumbach will meet with members of Congress to raise awareness about the disease and demand action. 
Through the American Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE initiative, Baumbach will join others personally affected by lung cancer to advocate for $46.1 billion in funding at the National Institutes of Health, $10 billion for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, adequate and accessible healthcare. 
In 2007, Baumbach went in for a routine checkup, and her physician gave her a chest x-ray as a part of their regular practice. Two weeks later, she received a call that they found a spot on her lung. Baumbach had a CT scan, and doctors scheduled another scan three months later to see if the spot had ....

Durham Woman with Lung Cancer Meets with North Carolina Lawmakers to Advocate for Change

Durham resident Phuong Huynh is a research scientist in a happy marriage with two lovely daughters. She is also living with stage IV lung cancer. This Wednesday, March 17, Huynh will meet with members of Congress to raise awareness about the disease and demand action. 
Through the American Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE initiative, Huynh will join others personally affected by lung cancer to advocate for $46.1 billion in funding at the National Institutes of Health, $10 billion for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, adequate and accessible healthcare. 
In 2017, Huynh developed a sporadic dry cough and shortness of breath when she was walking up stairs.  She went to the doctor, and on September 15, 2017, she was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic non-small cell lung cancer.  ....

Local resident Dawn D’Onofrio lost her mother to lung cancer, so this Wednesday, March 17, she will meet with members of Congress to raise awareness about the disease and demand action. 
Through the American Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE initiative, D’Onofrio will join others personally affected by lung cancer to advocate for $46.1 billion in funding at the National Institutes of Health, $10 billion for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, adequate and accessible healthcare. 
In December 2009, D’Onofrio’s mother began to complain of breathing problems and coughing. She visited her physician many times asking for help. They said she had chronic bronchitis, but the symptoms became worse and nothing seemed to help. After numerous ER visits, she was diagnosed with lung cancer. Birmingham resident Laronica Conway lost her mother to lung cancer, so this Wednesday, March 17, she will meet with members of Congress to raise awareness about the disease and demand action. 
Through the American Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE initiative, Conway will join others personally affected by lung cancer to advocate for $46.1 billion in funding at the National Institutes of Health, $10 billion for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, adequate and accessible healthcare. 
Conway’s mother was diagnosed with Stage IV Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer in 2008. The cancer had spread to her lymph nodes, spine and her liver, so she began chemotherapy.  ....
