OKLAHOMA CITY, OK | February 17, 2021 Today, the American Lung Association in Oklahoma announced that it will host the iconic Fight For Air Climb event outdoors for the first time at Wantland Stadium, home of the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos, on May 1. The event typically takes place in the stairwells of Valliance Tower but was reimagined as an outdoor climb challenge for the safety of participants, volunteers and staff. The organization is also offering a “Climb Your Way” option for those who can’t make it to the physical event. Registration is now open for the event, which invites individuals, families, groups of friends, corporate teams and first responders to tackle the stadium stairs, totaling 794 steps. ....

PORTSMOUTH, NH | February 17, 2021 Due to the potential spread of COVID-19, the American Lung Association has adjusted the Cycle the Seacoast fundraising ride in 2021 to be a virtual event, replacing the physical bike ride originally scheduled for May 2. This year, participants will be able to track their own progress to complete Cycle the Seacoast by cycling 25, 50 or 100 miles at their own pace to raise funds for the American Lung Association before June 30, 2021. “Based on guidelines from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and local government officials, we have decided to shift gears and avoid creating large gatherings of people, which is a natural part of our event. We want to continue to build on the momentum of our participants, volunteers and supporters and not let COVID-19 get the best of us. After all, our ride is a fundraiser for the American Lung Association to raise awareness of and improve lung health, including the fight against COVID-19. ....
ORLANDO, FL | February 17, 2021 Just three years ago, Sanford resident Dale Turner could barely walk 10 feet without having to stop and catch his breath. Thanks to a double lung transplant, on March 27 he will climb 1,000 stairs of Exploria Stadium at the American Lung Association’s Fight For Air Climb. Turner’s breathing issues began in 2014. He was on vacation in Costa Rica when he really struggled to catch his breath during an outdoor excursion. Over the next several years, he noticed he would get out of breath more frequently. Finally, in 2018, he visited a pulmonologist. After running a pulse oximetry test, which measures a person’s oxygen saturation in their blood, the doctor sent him straight to the emergency room. He spent four days there as doctors ran tests. ....
