East Somerville’s Tracey Pratt celebrated at Black Excellence Event Community Content East Somerville resident Tracey Pratt was recently honored at the 2021 Black Excellence on the Hill event, which is hosted annually by the Massachusetts Black & Latino Legislative Caucus (MBLLC) to commemorate Black community leaders and trailblazers who are making a difference in cities and towns across the Commonwealth. Pratt was nominated for this recognition by Rep. Mike Connolly, D-26th Middlesex. This year, the event was held virtually with opening remarks from Rep. Chynah Tyler, D-7th Suffolk; House Speaker Ronald Mariano, D-3rd Norfolk; and Senate President Karen Spilka, D-2nd Middlesex and Norfolk. The keynote address was delivered by Sean Ellis, founder of the Exoneree Network whose life story of being falsely accused of murder was the subject of the acclaimed Netflix Documentary Trial 4. ....

They did it with dignity and poise, but most of all with their feet and fortitude. Dorothy Counts was 15 when she integrated into Harding High School in Charlotte on Sept. 4, 1957. The school system was complying with the U.S. Supreme Court ruling which mandated school desegregation three years earlier. Several other African American students did the same thing across the district at other schools. Countsâ story appeared across the nation in newspapers. Print For two months last spring, Jamie Minotti and Mark McLarry kept the doors closed on their new San Marcos restaurant-brewery complex My Yard Live because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Fortunately, the partners and their staff survived the shutdown, thanks to a CARES Act federal loan and expanded unemployment benefits. But this time around they may not be so lucky. On Monday, a new state health order restricted San Diego County restaurants to takeout-only service in a bid to keep people home during the alarming surge in COVID-19 hospitalizations. But carry-out service was only a fraction of sales at My Yard Live, an experiential family-friendly venue with a fenced children’s playground and an outdoor concert stage. So Minotti and McLarry decided to shut down for now in what they are calling an indefinate hibernation. ....
