College Town: Anna Maria College marks 75th anniversary

PAXTON – Anna Maria College is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and is marking the occasion with a slate of community events and programs, the school recently announced.
The celebration will culminate at the college’s annual Service and Success Gala, where the 2021 recipient of the Presidential Award, which recognizes alumni and supporters of the school, will be chosen.
“It speaks to the wisdom of the Sisters of St. Anne in establishing an institution that associates a quality education with social responsibility,” said Anna Maria President Mary Lou Retelle. “The challenges in today’s world and the recent pandemic particularly affirms the importance of service to community. It is more critical than ever to have a citizenry that is well-educated, ethically grounded and ready to serve and we especially honor those alumni working toward the public good.” ....

WORCESTER – Nursing students from Quinsigamond Community College were among the first medical staff in the region to administer the first round of COVID-19 vaccines last week.
Eight students, along with instructor Margaret Yoder, a professor of nurse education at QCC, and fellow faculty member Christian Ilustre, helped give 100 shots to employees from Harrington Hospital in Southbridge last Friday.
“Our entire college community feels tremendous pride knowing our nursing students are playing such a vital role in our nation’s history,” QCC President Luis G. Pedraja said. “So many of our students are front-line workers who are essential to the safety and well-being of our community. They emulate what it means to be a Wyvern – QCC’s mascot that is a symbol for community guardianship.” ....

Eight Quinsigamond Community College practical nursing students and their instructors helped administer about 100 COVID-19 vaccines last week.
The students, professor of Nurse Education Margaret Yoder and faculty member Christian Ilustre worked with more than a dozen Harrington Hospital nurses at the Southbridge Armory on Friday. The vaccinations were provided to doctors, nurses and other frontline workers at Harrington Healthcare and Harrington Physician Services, the school said.
