Middleboro Select Board meeting

Action to change Rochester Road Bridge to Medal of Honor Bridge The Board announced that legislation is being proposed in the State House to change the name of the new Rochester Road Bridge to the Medal of Honor Bridge.  The proposed name is being chosen in recognition of three Medal of Honor recipients from the towns of Middleboro and Carver: Lowell M. Maxham; Patrick Regan and Wayne M. Caron.  Maxham is from Carver while Regan and Caron are from Middleboro.  The legislation is being spearheaded by Massachusetts Representative Susan Williams Gifford, whose office provided the language for the bill.  Select Board Chair Leilani Dalpe, while reading the bill to the public so the Board can vote to approve the proposed legislation, noted that the town of Middleboro is the only town in the nation to have multiple Medal of Honor recipients.

Medal of Honor Bridge connects Middleboro and Carver

Medal of Honor Bridge connects Middleboro and Carver Cameron Sinclaire Board of selectmen from both Middleboro and Carver have united to dedicate and memorialize three local heroes by renaming the Rochester Road/Pine Street bridge to “The Medal of Honor Bridge.” The Medal of Honor is the highest and most-prestigious personal military decoration that can be awarded to recognize U.S. military service members. It is given to those who have distinguished themselves by acts of valor. “In the entire history of North America, in all the wars that have been fought with the millions of men who were in those battles, there have only been 3,525 medals of honor awarded,” Middleboro resident and co-commander of the Simeon L. Nickerson American Legion Post 64 Robert Lessard explained.
