Snacks manufacturer Lotus Bakeries is launching a $62 million project to add three new production lines and 111,000 sq ft of space to its Mebane, NC production facility, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper recently announced.
“We’ve done the research and after considering the alternatives, we’re thrilled to expand our operations in North Carolina,” Michelle Singer, general manager for Lotus Bakeries US, said in a release. “Mebane provides our company a great location to manufacture our products while offering our skilled employees a rewarding and nice place to live.” ....

Mebane could do some catching up in the proposed 2021-22 budget with strong recovery projected

This year Mebane wants to make up for lost time.
Like most cities, Mebane’s 2020-21 budget was tight-fisted with the COVID-19 pandemic. The threat of widespread illness raised fears of low sales tax, property tax and investment revenues, so a lot of things were put off. But Mebane’s revenues were really very good – great even – and growth has gotten stronger, so this year’s budget is about catching up.
Budget highlights
$24,455,340: proposed General Fund, which pays for most day-to-day government functions like police and parks, a 1.7% increase over this year
$22,131,296: projected revenues, an 18.6% increase due to growth in housing and property revaluation on the city’s Orange County side ....

Mebane approves incentives for expansion of Lotus Bakeries after Alamance County says no

“We’re going to stay here – it’s really great here, and eventually we will expand here,” said Bart Vanterwyngen, Lotus plant manager, at a hearing this week. “What we are looking at now is a $60 million opportunity in the next two and a half years instead of spreading it out over the next 10 to 15 years after investing in Belgium first.”
