Councillors will scrutinise a decision to increase the policing budget by almost six per cent – which is expected to cost taxpayers around 25p a week.
On Tuesday, Norfolk’s police and crime commissioner (PCC), Lorne Green, will take his proposals for the 2021/22 policing budget to the county’s Police and Crime Panel.
The panel, which is made up of councillors and independent members, will scrutinise the proposed budget plans, which aim to tackle fraud and the unprecedented rise in domestic abuse.

People in Norfolk will have to pay about 29p a week more for the police element of council tax this year.  
A meeting of the Police and Crime Panel heard the increase was essential to tackle hidden harms’ such as domestic violence.  
Norfolk Police and crime commissioner (PCC), Lorne Green, proposed an increase of 5.68pc (£14.94) a year on Band D properties. 
A Band B property will see their council tax bills rise by 22p a week.  
Mr Green acknowledged the “unprecedented times” but said he needed to provide for public safety.  ....

Norfolk police arrested more than 80 drivers during their annual Christmas drink and drug driving blitz

Almost 90 people were arrested by Norfolk police during their Christmas drink and drug driving campaign.
The month-long initiative, which began on Tuesday, December 1 and ended on Friday, January 1, ran in conjunction with a UK-wide operation led by the National Police Chiefs’ Council.
It saw officers carrying-out roadside checks throughout the day and night, as well as intelligence-led enforcement activity.
This year, 46 drivers provided positive readings, while eight failed to provide a specimen and four were arrested for being unfit to drive through drink and drugs. A total of 86 motorists were arrested as a result. Meanwhile, 28 people failed roadside drug tests. ....
