⚾: Home Runs Push Noles to Series Win vs. No. 7 TCU

TALLAHASSEE – Florida State hit three home runs and got a superb pitching performance out of the bullpen from Wyatt Crowell to beat No. 7 TCU 7-3 Saturday night at Dick Howser Stadium. The win was FSU’s seventh in a row against Top 25 opponents and improves the Seminoles to 26-15, while the Horned Frogs fall to 27-16.

Crowell (4-0) allowed just one ninth-inning hit over 4.2 scoreless innings in relief of Carson Montgomery. After setting a career high with six strikeouts in his last outing against Clemson, he matched that number Saturday night. Crowell entered with runners on second and third and one out in the fifth inning, but struck out both batters to escape the jam.

After TCU took a 3-0 lead after four innings, the Seminole bats came alive. The Noles tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on back-to-back home runs from Brett Roberts and James Tibbs to chase Marcelo Perez from the game.

TALLAHASSEE – Florida State (21-13, 9-8 ACC) defeated No. 9 Louisville (24-10, 9-5 ACC) 9-4 Friday night to clinch the series against the ACC Atlantic Division leaders. Freshman Treyton Rank had a career day with four hits, four RBI, two runs scored and finished a home run shy of the 10th cycle in FSU history.

LHP Bryce Hubbart (6-1) started for the Noles, pitching 5.2 innings with six strikeouts and just one run allowed, lowering his season ERA to 2.82. Relievers Davis Hare, Conner Whittaker, Dylan Jacobs and Dylan Simmons pitched the remainder of the game. Louisville struck for three runs in the ninth inning after FSU had extended its lead to 9-1.

FSU jumped to an early 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, in large part to a Rank triple scoring three runs. All five runs were scored with two outs and was the third straight game FSU has had a five-run inning early in the game.

TALLAHASSEE – Florida State (19-13) allowed just two hits and struck out 14 hitters in a 5-0 shutout victory against No. 23 Florida (21-12) Tuesday night at Dick Howser Stadium. Conner Whittaker (1-1) earned his first career win with 3.2 innings out of the bullpen. 2022 Baseball Media Center Jonah Scolaro took to the mound for his second career start for FSU, with his previous start also coming against the Gators in 2019. In 3.1 innings pitched, the senior struck out five Florida batters, a season high. Florida State scored all five runs in the first inning, highlighted by back-to-back home runs from Alex Toral and Brock Mathis. ATLANTA – Georgia Tech (20-11, 6-7 ACC) had six runs and 10 hits in the first three innings en route to a 7-3 win over No. 20 Florida State (17-12, 6-7) Friday night at Russ Chandler Stadium.

Parker Messick (4-2) was tagged with the loss, allowing 10 hits and six runs in 2.2 innings.

Conner Whittaker allowed a solo home run over 2.2 innings, the second-longest outing of his career. Dylan Simmons set career-highs with 1.2 innings pitched and three strikeouts, and Dylan Jacobs pitched a scoreless eighth inning. Combined the bullpen allowed just one run on six hits in 5.1 innings.

TALLAHASSEE – Pinch hitter Jackson Greene hit a game-tying two-run home run in the ninth inning, and Jordan Carrion singled home Brett Roberts in the 12th inning as Florida State (17-11) tallied a 5-4 win over Stetson (16-12) Wednesday night at Dick Howser Stadium.

Carson Montgomery struck out a career-high 13 batters over 6.1 innings, the fourth Seminole starting pitcher this season with a 13-strikeout game.

Behind Montgomery, Jonah Scolaro, Jackson Baumeister, Davis Hare and Wyatt Crowell (2-0) added 12 strikeouts. FSU’s 25 strikeouts were one shy of the school record of 26, set last month over 17 innings against NC State.
