VW independent/submitted information MIDDLE POINT A Delphos man was killed Sunday night when he was struck by a semi tractor-trailer while making repairs to his vehicle along U.S. 30 in Washington Township. Jeffrey Brown, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene by a representative of the Van Wert County Coroner’s Office from injuries sustained in the accident. According to investigating troopers from the Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Mr. Brown was standing on the left side of his disabled 2008 Chrysler van making repairs to his vehicle, which was parked on the right side of the eastbound lanes of U.S. 30 at approximately 9:48 p.m. Sunday, when a 2015 Freightliner semi rig driven east on U.S. 30 by Glen Anderson, 66, of Rochester, Indiana, veered onto the berm of the highway and first struck the left side of the van and then Brown, who sustained fatal injuries in the crash. ....

Thad Eikenbary Eikenbary is a 1987 graduate of Van Wert High School and a 1991 graduate of Ohio Northern University with a BSBA in Accounting and Finance. Thad was employed with Central Mutual Insurance for 29 years, where he held the positions of vice president/treasurer from 2003 to 2020 and corporate accounting manager from 1991 to 2003. Eikenbary and his wife, Laura, reside in Van Wert and have three children: Jacey, Lauren, and Carter. The Eikenbary family are members of Calvary Evangelical Church. Thad has been active in the community, as he served on the YMCA Board and the Van Wert Area Youth for Christ Board. ....
Van Wert independent staff LIMA A jury on Friday found Convoy resident Vicky Shellabarger guilty of three of four counts related to the death of her 22-month-old daughter, Madilynn. Madilynn Shellabarger Although the jury deadlocked on whether Shellabarger, 38, was guilty of murder, it returned guilty verdicts on one count of involuntary manslaughter, a felony of the first degree, as well as second- and third-degree counts of child endangering. The defendant faces a maximum sentence of 32 years in prison on the charges. Sentencing will be held on May 24 in Allen County Common Pleas Court. Shellabarger was indicted in June 2018 in the death of her young daughter, which occurred three months earlier on April 29 of that year. First-responders discovered that the young girl was not breathing and was unresponsive when Shellabarger called them to the Delphos apartment of her then-boyfriend shortly after midnight on the 29th. ....
VW independent/submitted information BLUE CREEK TOWNSHIP A Grover Hill woman was killed Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of U.S. 127 and Township Road 48 in Paulding County. Karenann Winters, 76, was pronounced dead at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana, from injuries received in the accident. According to the Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ms. Winters was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu west on Township Road 48 at approximately 1:18 p.m. Friday and first stopped at the stop sign with U.S. 127, before continuing west onto the highway, where her vehicle was hit by a 1994 Dodge Dakota driving south on U.S. 127 by John A. Vibbert, 21, of Van Wert. Both vehicles ended up just off the southwest corner of the intersection. ....
