Fonner Park chooses new casino operator

After a five-month selection process, Fonner Park has chosen Iowa-based casino operator Elite Casino Resorts, LLC to operate its planned $100 million Grand Island Casino Resort.
The Friday announcement comes after on November 4, 2020, Nebraska voters overwhelmingly approved measures giving existing state-licensed horseracing facilities the ability to offer games of chance such as slots. Almost immediately after, the thoroughbred horse racing facility in Grand Island began accepting proposals to which officials received nine responses to requests and
met with eight different operators to hear each of their respective plans.

Construction plan shrinks for Lincoln casino

The amendment submitted asks to scale-down building plans for the area south of W. Denton Rd.
“It ultimately is a reduction in commercial, even though we now have a new casino use in the big picture, there’s a reduction of commercial uses, more dwelling units,” said Attorney Andrew Willis on behalf of the applicant.
The amendment asks to shrink the land allotted for commercial use as the original amount is no longer necessary for the updated casino construction plan.
Nebraska HBPA Executive Vice President Lynne McNally said Warhorse Gaming was keeping their employees and local property owners in mind when they made the change ....
