The motorcade is in celebration of the example set by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the hope he instilled in our community that change will come.

ALTON, Ill. The Alton Branch NAACP is holding a Martin Luther King Jr. Motorcade Celebration this Sunday, January 17.
This is the first year for the event, and the theme is
Making Lives Matter, Where Do We Go From Here, which acknowledges the work we have yet to do.

ALTON City employees on Thursday removed the last of the Christmas garland that had been put up at Lincoln-Douglas Square in downtown Alton.
The decorations in the square compliment the annual Alton Christmas Tree erected by Alton Godfrey Rotary Club members each year for the last quarter of a century. In previous years people packed the square for ceremonies related to the lighting of the tree, which often included a visit by Santa and Christmas carols sung by children. ....

ALTON The Alton Branch NAACP is planning its first ever motorcade to celebrate the memory and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Jan. 17.
The event’s theme, “Making Lives Matter, Where Do We Go from Here,” acknowledges the work yet to be done. The NAACP asks that motorcade participants meet at the Lincoln-Douglas Square in downtown Alton by 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, to ensure a prompt 2 p.m. departure to James Killion (Salu) Park. People are invited to use creative decor on their vehicles.
Upon arrival at the park, there will be a wreath-laying in honor of Dr. King and brief remarks to commemorate the moment. ....
