The community is invited to pitch in on the effort to clean up Alton streets. Volunteers can simply pick up litter in their neighborhood and deposit it in their own trash and recycle bins. Bags and gloves provided by Madison County and safety vests provided by Granny’s Uniforms Work Fashions & More will be available all month at Jacoby Arts Center, 627 E. Broadway 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, as well as Maeva’s Coffee at 1320 Milton Road 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Incumbents Jeff Weber and Nathan Schrumpf are challenged by Sarah Woodman, Rick Lauschke and James Ward. Weber, who grew up in Godfrey, is a graduate from Alton High School and the University of Missouri. He also served was an Army officer. He previously has been president of the Alton School Board, chairman of the Godfrey Planning and Zoning Commission and chairman of the Godfrey Sewer Department. Weber said he has the skills to maintain the status of trustee for Godfrey.

Hernandez, the daughter of Timothy Hernandez and Carrie Stewart of Godfrey, attended Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Grade School. At Marquette Catholic High School she has maintained a GPA above 4.0 while being in a full honors course of study all four years of high school, which led to her selection as a St. Louis Post-Dispatch “A” Student each year and being inducted into the Rose Morelli chapter of National Honor Society her junior year.
