constitutional protections for abortion that women have had for nearly 50 years. and now leaving it up to states to decide whether abortion should be legal within their borders. at least 26 states are either boysed to or have already banned abortion. the ruling cheered by anti-abortion supporters after decades fighting but a broad majority of americans disagreeing with that ruling. in a cnn poll conducted weeks ago, 66% of americans did not want the supreme court to completely overturn roe v. wade. cnn has reporters on ground covering this seismic decision. let s go first to cnn s joe johns outside of the u.s. supreme court where i know it is very noisy and a lot people there. what are you seeing? reporter: it is noisy, fred. and we have seen a lot of clanting, a bit of confrontation because there have been people here on both sides of this issue. yelling at each other. it is largely peaceful. talking to people in the crowd, you get a real sense of what brought them and the
choose. but realistically, what can the federal government do at this point to protect abortion access? there are certain things that the federal government can do. so far example, yesterday the attorney general came out and said that states could not prevent individuals from taking an fda approved drug that would induce an abortion. even if states where it is prohibited. that will be challenged and the court might be hostile to that. but they will be hostile to any federal governments to try to protect a woman s right to choose. so that is just a legal lan escape. but does that doesn t mean that federal government shouldn t try. the hide amendment could be overturned and license clinics that are involved in inner state commerce to have abortions. there are things to do to address the state of affairs. justice thomas wrote that
or the attorney general, but by an 8-1 vote with only justice thomas saying you can sue the members of the state medical board that license clinics. it leaves open for challengers to go back to federal court and try to get this law overturned. this case was not about the abortion right. it was simply about the structure of the texas law. and the other disappointment for challengers of the law is the court left in place the order that allows texas to continue to enforce the ban while the lawsuits proceed. well, i guess that s the part, pete. what s the rationale for that? well, the court didn t say much about it other than because they re only saying we re going to allow the lawsuits to proceed, we don t know how they re going to come out. so for now, there s no reason to shut the law down. that seems to be the court s logic. barbara, how would you argue this?

York attorney Suzanne Smith has announced her candidacy as a judge for the York County Court of Common Pleas.

Attorney Suzanne S. Smith of York has announced her intention to run for Judge of the Court of Common Pleas in York County.
Having practiced law for nearly three decades, Smith, a Republican, is a graduate of the University of Dayton Law School. She has previously worked as a clerk for the Honorable John C. Uhler and in the York County Office of the Public Defender. She also worked in private practice at Kearney & Marshall and eventually opened her own firm, Marshall & Smith.
