Its my honor to introduce three people to you this evening. First is Roger Rosenblatt whose work has been published in 14 languages. Roger is the author of five New York Times notable books of the year and three times bestseller. The story the story i am mad about the writing life came out in april and a cool moon a life love and responsibility will be in october. Rogers written seven off broadway plays notably the one person free speech in america that he performed at the American Theater which was the times 10 best plays of 1991. First of all i think when the first actions of the committee is we are going to take over the roles and Means Committee to make this a rules committee but first let me say that i appreciate, wanted to say this from the beginning i appreciate the flexibility of our Ranking Member mr. Cole. Im incredibly proud of how we have worked together here in this congress. We have examined a lot of things in the committee and no matter how politically alike we are doing things in the constructive when and i look forward to working with you mr. Cole in a bipartisan effort that was announced today and we will examine how congress can better adapt to the emergencies of the coronavirus pandemic pandemic. Book tv recently visited capitol hill and asked husband jim bank about his reading list. This summer i have a very ambitious reading list. Currently im finishing a wellknown book by Stephen Ambrose on the day, a couple of weeks ago i went to the 75th anniversary of dday and im about finished with the book but going there and seeing firsthand what happened there 75 years ago our heroes, the greatest generation, the world war ii veterans who stormed the beaches of normandy and to read the book firsthand and learn more about it, its overwhelming to imagine what they went through. Im also reading seapower. Which just went in paperback. I am a Navy Reserve Officer and have been a champion of bigger, Stronger Navy force posture in this to modulus and dangerous world that we live in today and i just picked up past carters ....
Been several years since jonathan was here. He was here for th it is really wonderful for us to have jonathan back at the carter library. You know, it has been several years since jonathan was here. He was here for a book about jackie robinson. And that has probably been seven or a neck years since then. And what is really neat is that jonathan had decided to kick offs book tour for his new book. His book just came out yesterday. And do that here at the jimmy carter president ial library, which is really, i think, great. This is his sixth book. He has written, as i said, about jackie robinson, lou gehrig, muhamed ali, al capone, as well as the foursome who really did the push to get the approval of the Birth Control pill. But the thing that you see in jonathans writing is an immense amount of research that goes into it. And i think he comes by that naturally. His dad was an accountant. So a stickler for details.
