Tim walch received a ph. D. In history from northwestern in 1975. After that he served in various capacities of ne National Archives and records institution part of that large organization. Until his retirement in 2011 beginning as a Program Analyst with the National Historical Public Relations commission, tim served as budget analyst, codirector of the modern archives institute, chief of Education Development before landing in west branch as assistant director of the Herbert Hoover president ial Library Museum and finally director of the same organization from 1993 to 2011. Prolific writer. He edited more than 22 books including the correspondence between hoover and eisenhower as well as numerous articles, essays, book reviews, encyclopedia entries and numerous book articles. American civil war at the university of virginia and a great friend to the Virginia Historical society. He has spoken here on several occasions and has done research here in the Rich Holdings of our civil war manuscripts. He was a member of the class in 1988. I wont tell you how old i was at that point. We were glad to have him then as today. He has also mined the collection of the Confederate Memorial Society at the museum of the confederacy for his essays. That question, that collection, as you may know, will be housed at the Virginia Historical society where it will be preserved, catalog, and digitized as part of a new Civil War Research center. Ms. Albright so, it was much later when i became secretary of state and the question arose as to where to hold a particular ceremony. The event was to mark natos decision to include poland, and my native hungry as nightmares hungary as new members. I cannot think of a more appropriate place than the truman president ial library in independence, missouri, a place devoted to the man whose vision was responsible for nato. As i stood there, i was so help tothat i cannot use an old czechoslovakia expression, hallelujah. [laughter] ms. Albright i was equally excited to hold a ceremony in washington to formally rename this building in honor of president truman. In 2002, i was honored to be asked to serve this foundation. Harry truman was both a remarkable president and a remarkable man who spoke often about the importance of promoting young leaders.
