Channels chided over Yen coverage - Taipei Times

SET News and Formosa News have been asked to properly handle viewers’ complaints about their coverage of former Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) legislator Yen Kuan-heng (顏寬恒), after both news channels were accused of giving biased coverage and failing to verify the claims made by guests on political talk shows, the National Communications Commission (NCC) said yesterday.
Commission Chairman Chen Yaw-shyang (陳耀祥) attended a meeting of the legislature’s Transportation Committee to brief lawmakers on the issues related to home shopping channels.
KMT Legislator Hung Meng-kai (洪孟楷) asked Chen if the commission had noticed that some political talk shows spend almost the program focusing ....

Taichung authorities accused of shielding Yen

The Chinese Nationalist Party’s (KMT) candidate in a legislative by-election in Taichung’s second electoral district should clarify allegations related to his properties instead of evading the issue, said former legislator, Lin Ching-yi (林靜儀), the Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) contender in the vote.
Former legislator Yen Kuan-heng (顏寬恒) of the KMT, who represented the district from 2013 to last year, has come under increasing pressure to dismantle a house his family owns in Nantun District (南屯) after the Taichung City Government found that it was illegally constructed on land intended to be used for public facilities, giving the family until Monday to ....

Military to equip vehicles with improved assault guns

The military plans to start installing locally produced 105mm assault guns on its eight-wheeled Clouded Leopard armored vehicles next month, a military source said yesterday.
After they are installed, the military would from March begin testing the guns’ capabilities, they said.
The domestically made gun barrel has 60 percent less recoil than the imported barrels used previously, the source said, adding that its ammunition would also have better penetration.
Before a new weapon can enter mass production, it must pass through the military’s five-step development process.
The March tests would be the third step in the process.
After the assault guns have entered mass ....
