Off The Menu: Holiday grab of news and notes Updated Dec 19, 2020; The Miss Florence Diner in Florence is making Christmas season celebrations a bit easier this year. “Miss Flo” is offer pick-up meals on Christmas Eve day and Christmas morning. Four options are available: spiral glazed ham with au gratin potatoes, a traditional turkey dinner, roast pork, and classic lasagna. Whole pies at Christmas are a Miss Flo tradition, with eight different varieties available for advance ordering. The announcement marked the end of a 12-year run by the downtown dining establishment, which opened during the Great Recession. Co-owners and married couple Elizabeth Martinez (manager) and Daniel Martinez (chef), bid their “adieu” in a Facebook post and on their website, thanking community members for their patronage at the restaurant over the years. ....

Bistro Les Gras in Northampton closing after 12 years as COVID-19 wounds restaurant industry Updated Dec 16, 2020; NORTHAMPTON Bistro Les Gras, the French-style farm-to-table restaurant on West Street, will not reopen this spring after what had been announced as a temporary closure due to COVID-19. Instead, owners Daniel and Elizabeth Martinez said Wednesday they will not renew their lease. The restaurant is closing after 12 years. “A lot of thoughts crossed our mind as we came to this decision‚” they wrote on the restaurant’s Facebook page. “We thought of our amazing staff over the years, and how many have become some of our dearest friends. We reminisced about all the families we have had the pleasure to watch grow over the years. We thought of our amazing regulars who have become as much a part of our daily lives as our own families, perhaps even more so. It became easy to see that Bistro Les Gras belongs to all of these people as much as it belongs ....
